5 Surefire Ways to kill your Sponsorship

By Marion Grobb

Marion Grobb, Director Communications CFPSA

If your NPP event or program isn’t getting sponsors, there are things you can do to create a ``Sponsorship friendly`` environment. Before even trying to pitch your event to potential sponsors, your NPP Sponsorship Authorized Agent (AA) needs certain things in place. How many of the following could you help with?

Here’s the message: work with your Sponsorship Authorized Agent (AA). If you have an NPP Program, event or activity that you think warrants sponsorship attention, get your information together (per chart below) and then share that with your AA. Sponsorship really is a partnership… with the sponsor and the whole NPP team. PS: if your B/W/U has no NPP Sponsorship Authorized Agent, a course is tentatively planned for the May 3-4, 2006, to update existing AAs and train new ones. More to follow

ARE YOU KILLING YOUR SPONSORSHIP POSSIBILITIES BY DOING THE FOLLOWING? HOW TO CREATE A SPONSORSHIPFRIENDLY EVENT
  1. Giving no specific dates for events.
Provide your NPP Sponsorship Authorized Agent (AA) with:
  • Confirmed dates of any event seeking sponsorship.
  1. Being vague on event details and description.
  • Detailed description of event (annual, new, how many years has it existed? What activities will take place?)
  1. Providing insufficient lead time.
  • At least 6 months lead time… 12 is better (so it gets officially in their annual workplan)
  1. Being unclear with your target audience.
  • Who is attending the event (CF member, their families, male/female split, ages, etc.), how many?
  1. Breaking promises.
  • Signature of person responsible for the event… and then that person ensures event occurs as planned and works with Sponsorship AA to ensure everything promised to the sponsor is delivered.
