Is your Sponsorship Property Public or Non-Public?

The purpose of this article is to offer some guidance as to whether the sponsorship property is NPF or Public, and by extension what policy will apply.

By definition, a sponsorship is the officially recognized provision of financial or product-in-kind support in exchange for a defined benefit. A donation is a contribution, gift or bequest made without expectation of receiving any benefit other than public acknowledgement.

In order to be recognized as an authorized NPP sponsorship or donation activity, you have to evaluate the funding and who administer the program. Also, the sponsorship must not influence buying decisions; otherwise it is not an acceptable proposition. Finally, all deliverables have to be under NPP control in order to apply the NPP policy. If you don’t have any deliverables, you have a donation.
