Sports Award Ceremony
For 21 years, the highlight of the Canadian Forces (CF) sports year has been and continues to be the Canadian Forces Sports Award Ceremony. Annually, this prestigious event brings together 350 distinguished guests and honorees to pay tribute to athletic excellence within the military community. Guests have included the Chief of the Defence Staff, Environmental Chiefs of Staff, CF Sports Patrons and corporate sponsors.
This year’s theme “Women in Sport – Then and Now” celebrated the evolution of women in military sports from its feeble beginnings and the milestones that have marked changes for women in sport in the last fourteen (14) years. The distinguished CF Sports Awards Ceremony commemorated female icons from the past, leading ladies of today and provided a sneak peek into the future of women in military sports.
Major award presentations include the Male and Female Athlete, Coach and Official and Team of the Year. In Oscar-fashion, the nominees for these categories are announced in the fall and, after much anticipation, the winners were revealed at the CF Sports Awards Ceremony. These awards are presented by senior officials as well as our ceremony sponsors. During the ceremony, a few select CF members were also inducted into the prominent Canadian Forces Sports Hall of Fame and Honour Roll.
