Taking a Stand Against Family Violence

From 12-18 October 2009, Canadian Forces (CF) communities will once again be joining forces to Take a Stand Against Family Violence. Coinciding with the YWCA’s Week Without Violence, this CF-wide family violence prevention and awareness campaign reaches out to all military personnel, families, and service providers.

Now in its third year, the Take a Stand campaign continues to spread the message that family violence prevention is the responsibility of the entire CF community. Though family violence is not unique to the CF, our response to it should be: together, we can address this issue with tailored education and prevention strategies and by responding to cases of violence appropriately, responsibly and respectfully.

To promote family violence prevention during campaign week and throughout the year, Director Military Family Services (DMFS) has partnered with Forces Health Protection to deliver posters and brochures to Family Crisis Teams in each CF community, including Canadian/Military Family Resource Centre staff. All service providers should note that the campaign posters and brochures have not changed from previous years, so please continue to use the supplies you have on hand in addition to the materials arriving in September.

A CANFORGEN from Chief Military Personnel will be released in early October to officially announce this year’s campaign. For more information and to view campaign materials, please visit the Family Violence Prevention and Awareness Campaign section of the DMFS website.
