A Snapshot of Pilot Projects

Ready, set, launch! Eight pilot projects are now underway at selected Military Family Resource Centres (MFRCs), representing a huge step forward in the Military Family Services Program Enhancement Initiative. Through the pilot projects, the MFRCs will provide Director Military Family Services (DMFS) with recommendations on the relevance of select programs for potential use within the Military Family Services Program.

During these exciting times of growth and change, DMFS is committed to keeping all family services stakeholders well informed about each pilot project. We’ll be updating the new Pilot Projects section of our website with more detailed information as each initiative progresses. A brief outline of each pilot project is below:

Child Care
Esquimalt is expanding the www.familynavigator.ca website to include a centralized, nationwide Child Care Information Portal for community-based child care information.
Deployment and Reunion
Valcartier is hiring a family counsellor to provide specialized mental health and social support to families experiencing challenges related to family separation and reunion.
Education
Winnipeg has designed a template for the Canadian Education Portal – a centralized, online list of useful education resources for military families.
Employment
Trenton is building on their current Job Shop program to develop an online, national job search and match program.
Halifax and Region is developing the National Employment Awareness Template – an awareness campaign to educate national and local business communities on the benefits of hiring military family members.
Mental Health and Social Support
