Review of MFRC Staff Pay, Benefits and Pension Underway

Director Military Family Services (DMFS) recognizes that Military Family Resource Centres (MFRCs) need to successfully attract and retain quality staff in order to deliver the best services possible to military families. Fair and equitable pay, benefits and pension plans are powerful draws which encourage great people to apply for jobs at MFRCs, and stay for the long term.

As a part of the Canadian Forces Family Services Enhancement Initiative, DMFS will develop recommendations that will support MFRCs in their efforts to provide comprehensive compensation plans for their staff. As MFRCs are not-for-profit organizations, it will continue to be up to each Centre’s elected volunteer Board of Directors to establish the pay, benefits and pension strategies for their staff. As the principle funder for MFRCs, DMFS will shape its policies to enable Boards of Directors to accomplish this critical task, fairly and with adequate resources.

MFRCs will need to quickly respond to questions about their current compensation strategies: job descriptions, pay scales, benefits & pension, professional development and leave.

To ensure that they make sound recommendations, DMFS will be laying the groundwork by researching the current rates of compensation that have been established by each MFRC. In addition, DMFS will assist MFRCs across the country to conduct salary and compensation reviews. Templates and expectations for both initiatives will be sent as soon as they are developed. Both will likely demand a quick and thorough return from all MFRCs.

As work on the enhancement of pay, benefits and pension plans progresses, DMFS is committed to keeping all MFSP stakeholders informed. Check back with us often for more information.
