New Face at DMFS

Lisa Vaters – Project Coordinator, Education

Lisa Vaters grew up in Glenwood, Newfoundland and went to Memorial University to study Biology. While in her second year, she was offered a job teaching labs, and from then on she was hooked. Lisa graduated with a B.Sc. and went on to a Master's program at the University of Guelph, where she taught sciences as well. Throughout her career, Lisa has taught first, second and third year science courses at Dalhousie, Mount St. Vincent and Aurora College. She has also been a substitute teacher for kindergarten - grade 12.

Lisa’s background in education is paired with a more personal interest in Military Family Services: Lisa considers her role as a military spouse to be an honour and a matter of pride. The highlight of her 15 years in a military family has been her posting to Yellowknife. Her family highly enjoyed the close-knit military community and the family oriented programs available in the town. Lisa’s family has also been posted to Kingston, Ottawa and Halifax, where she has enjoyed volunteering at each MFRC and meeting friends across the country.

In working with DMFS, Lisa’s goal is to provide support to CF families in every way, shape and form – specifically improving on the education policies and programs.
