Teamwork worth $216,000

On 24 October 2009, the Valcartier Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) hosted the 5th edition of the “Criée d’automne” fall auction, its main fundraising activity. This event brought together over 700 guests who converged in the MTSC-3 Building’s garage. In the ballroom-like atmosphere, guests had to be reminded by the Honourable Gilles Lamontagne, Interim Honorary President of the Fall Auction Committee, that they were indeed in a garage.

The evening included a sumptuous dinner prepared by tireless chefs from all over the Land Forces Quebec Area. Amidst a magical decor, the crowd was entertained by the famous soprano Ms. Nathalie Choquette accompanied by young singing protégés who appeared on the television show « La Cour des grands », followed by spectacular stilt walkers, music from the Royal 22e Régiment Band, and both silent and live auctions.

The guest of honour for the event, the Honourable Roméo Dallaire, started his speech by honouring military families and highlighting their exemplary support. General Walt Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff, and his spouse, Leslie, also attended the event. They greeted the troops returning from Afghanistan and acknowledged the sacrifices made by the community's spouses and children in achieving the mission.

A very dedicated Ms. Marie-Josée Laflamme, daughter of Mr. Guy Laflamme, Honorary President of the 2009 Fall Auction Committee and Honorary Colonel of the 6th Field Regiment, also addressed the crowd during the evening. "Through their courage and determination, families contribute directly to the success of the Canadian mission," she declared.

Beyond all the festivities, it is important to recognize the tremendous amount of work that was carried out in support of East Quebec's military community. Businesses and Valcartier MFRC partners helped raise $216,000. Also, a team of 71 volunteers were the driving force behind the success of the evening. Such an event would not have been possible without everyone’s involvement.
