Story Time with the Wing Commander!
Erin Dingwall, Moose Jaw MFRC Family Separation & Reunion Coordinator
It seems that days are getting busier and busier, filled with more commitments and less time to fulfill them all. Spending quality time as a family becomes very important.
October 4 – 10, 2010 marked National Family Week and this year’s theme was “Families Connecting through Stories”. Storytelling is a great way to spend quality time together. Whether the story is from a book or has been made up by a parent, storytelling provides the opportunity for physical and emotional closeness; a time to cuddle up and make memories together.
The Moose Jaw MFRC kicked off National Family Week with “Story Time with the Wing Commander!” On 4 October, Colonel J.A.M. Bigaouette, his wife Marie and Chief Warrant Officer Stephen Jackson came out to the MFRC and took turns sharing stories with the children and parents of 15 Wing. There were 24 kids from 16 different families in attendance and a great time was had by all. “Up, Up, Down” by Robert Munsch was a definite crowd pleaser and once story time turned into snack time there were still a few little ones who stayed with Marie to read more books!
The Wing Commander and Wing Chief’s enthusiastic support of and participation in this event was sincerely appreciated by the parents and children of 15 Wing. Their presence helped show the families what a positive experience it is to be part of the community at 15 Wing.
