A Special Thank You for 19 Wing Comox Volunteers
In Canadian Forces communities across the country, volunteers quietly make things happen. They plan events, lead classes, serve food, and help newcomers feel at home. They find time in their invariably hectic days to give back to their community in ways large and small, making sure that programs and events run smoothly while taking little credit for themselves.
On 3 June 2009, those who gave their time to the 19 Wing Comox community received a little something in return. Through the SISIP FS Volunteer Recognition Program (VOREP), youth and adult volunteers were honoured with a meal and entertainment.

“Their contribution is essential to the success of all the programs, activities and organizations that support the Wing,” said Danielle Bernier, Military Family Resource Centre Volunteer and Second Language Services Manager. “None of the organizations, clubs and events would be capable of providing such quality service without the commitment of each volunteer.”
With financial and logistical support from the SISIP FS VOREP, Comox was able to hold two celebrations: a buffet luncheon for 110 adults, followed by a late afternoon BBQ dinner for 40 youth. Both events featured entertainment and laughs from the George P. Vanier Secondary School’s Senior Improv Team, the newly-minted Canadian Improv Games National Champions. Volunteers were also given tote bags as a gesture of thanks for their contributions.

“We wanted our volunteers to relax, eat and enjoy themselves,” said Danielle. “It is our way to let them know how much their contribution is appreciated.”
