Q1: Who funds the courses? Who pays my travel claim?
A:

The Canadian Forces Training Support Group (CFTSG) pays for all the courses found in the brochure. When you register through MITE you will be given a FIN Code so your orderly room can make travel arrangements through a TAN number. In other words, the procedure is the same as that followed during any other form of training. Note: If you are a reservist, your salary, TD, and travel expenses must be covered by your reserve unit - MITE takes care of your rations & quarters and the cost of the course.

Q2: How do I register for a course?
A:

If you meet all the prerequisites, contact your G3 Individual Training (or other MITE coordinator). He or she will go through the necessary procedure to nominate/register you through MITE. The Military Individual Training and Education (MITE) course codes are as follows:
BFTA - 112290
AFTA - 112390
USFO - 112436
RAL - 112291

Q3: Where do I find the available course dates and locations?
A:

Your Unit's training representative who has the Nominator role in the MITE system nominates you for the course. Your name remains on the Waitlist until you are matched to a course session or for one year, whichever comes first. Your MITE rep should indicate in the "Remarks" section the dates when you are NOT available. To avoid being loaded on a course that you are not able to attend, please have your MITE rep update the Remarks section whenever there is a change in your location or availability. When you are officially loaded on a specific course session, you will receive a message and generic Joining Instructions from CFSTG SSO Trg. If the course is located in Borden, the CFPSA Trg Ctr Information Coordinator will ask you to confirm your attendance by email and will send more detailed Joining Instructions.

Q4: What is required for a course to be delivered at my location? How do I arrange it?
A:

You must guarantee 16 students at a minimum of 60 days in advance. Once a course serial is loaded into MITE the date cannot be changed. If no one has registered for a course that has been loaded into the system, the location can be changed to your location (but again, not the date). If the location of an existing serial can simply be changed, CFTSG will still fund the course. Instructors would require logistical support provided by a coordinator who would assist in booking facilities and other necessary details as determined by the Chief Instructor (CI).

Q5: What is the USER-PAY Option? What costs will my base or unit have to cover?
A:

If you require a course at a time when no serials are planned, please call the Information Coordinator (705-424-1200 ext. 3127) to discuss the details. You must have 16 students guaranteed 60 days prior to the course start date. Your base or unit will be responsible for providing the students and staff participating in the course with the following resources: rations & quarters, TAN #s for travel, on-site transportation, a fully-equipped classroom, a reserved gymnasium and/or other facilities, audio-visual equipment, and any other requests that facilitate course delivery.

If you have 16 suitable students and would like to bring CFPSA Training Centre Instructors to your location 60 or more days from now, contact the Information Coordinator with your top three choices for course start dates. The Information Coordinator will verify with the Manager which dates fit the centre's training plan. The Course Chief Instructor (CI) will then contact you with further details on what optimal support is required.

To discuss the particulars of any given course, please contact the Chief Instructors by email or at 705-424-1200 (CSN 270) plus the following extension:

  • BFTA: Howie Woodruff ext. 2115

  • AFTA: Isabelle Lalonde ext. 3558

  • RAL: Todd Cirka ext. 3552

  • USFO: Isabelle Lalonde ext. 3558

  • CF Hockey Officials: Todd Cirka/Dunae Farrell ext. 3552/1707

Q6: Are BFTA and AFTA graduates qualified to do EXPRES fitness testing?
A:

BFTA and AFTA grads are qualified to assist PSP Fitness Instructors in EXPRES testing. In addition to Physical Education degrees and CPAFLA Certificates, PSP Fitness Instructors have completed a rigorous PSP Instructors Course. Only PSP employees may attend the PSP Instructors Course. As such, they are motivated and able to uphold fitness standards across the CF.

If you have any questions or feedback on this or any other CF Physical Fitness policy, please contact: Mike Taylor, National Physical Fitness Manager, at 613-995-8916.

If a remote unit does not have a PSP Fitness person to do its EXPRES testing, the Fitness and Sports Director at the base that it is attached to should be contacted in order to schedule testing with a PSP Fitness Instructor.

Q7: Are Reservists eligible for CFPSA TC courses?
A:

Yes, reservists may participate in any of the courses, provided they meet all the prerequisites and their reserve unit pays their salary, TD, and travel expenses. Reservists should register through their reserve's MASM/training person via MITE. The MITE system does take care of Rations and Quarters and the cost of the course itself.
