Warrant Officer (Retired) Paul Best
22 Wing North Bay Fitness, Sports and Recreation Director, PSP

From intersection leagues to CISM, WO (Ret'd) Best has many meritorious achievements in his military career and is an excellent ambassador for the CF sports program. He began his military career in 1978 in the Navy. Since his first exposure to the CF Sports Program in 1980, he has competed in 19 CF nationals and 36 regional competitions, winning a total of 32 gold and 15 silver medals - four national and 23 regional golds as well as eight national and six regional silvers were in badminton. In 1994, he won an international badminton singles exhibition match against England.
In addition to his participation as a player in several sports, WO (Ret'd) Best is a certified coach of badminton, soccer, and volleyball, right up to the CISM level with volleyball. He also officiated CF volleyball and badminton at all levels, and in 1997, he was appointed to his current position of CF Chief Official for badminton.
Motivated by his extensive knowledge and keen passion for sports, WO (Ret'd) Best continues to play an active role in the development of the CF sports programs. He is consistently ready to help out wherever he can, fostering good sportsmanship and integrity for all athletes, coaches, teams and officials alike.
Master Warrant Officer (Retired) William F. Rostek, CD
MWO (Ret'd) Rostek's military service spanned over 31 years and made even more successful by his dedication and world-class achievements in sports. Well recognized as a fierce competitor, he amassed accomplishments in fastball, volleyball, hockey, and most notably in track and field. Because he did very little sport-specific training and yet excelled in competition, MWO (Ret'd) Rostek is known as a gifted, natural athlete and regarded as the "pride" of Low Level Air Defense.

Throughout his four-year track career, which spanned 1954-57, MWO (Ret'd) Rostek competed in many events where he broke records and claimed numerous gold medals in the 100-yard and 220-yard dash, the broad jump, and 440-yard relay. At the Tri Service Championship, in 1955, as anchor of his 440-yard relay team, he shattered the Tri Service record by running in an outstanding 46.8 seconds.
In 1957 after an incredible year at the track, MWO (Ret'd) Rostek was selected to compete at the 1958 British Empire Game Trials in Saskatoon, yet, he never made it to the trials due to an unfortunate family crisis. Although he applied the same dedication and enthusiasm he had for the military to his sport, MWO (Ret'd) Rostek saw sports as a compliment to his career and never chose sport ahead of his family or the Army.

They joined the local slo-pitch league to gain more experience in preparation for the CF Regional Championship. In July, with a "skeleton crew," 19 Wing proved to be a competitive team, successfully defending their CF Pacific Regional Championship title. In September at the 2005 CF National Slo-pitch Championship in Borden, 19 Wing ended the competition with a perfect record of six wins, zero losses. The win was not only impressive for a second-year team from a small base, but it was also the first CF National Championship in any sport Comox had won since 1988.
