Northern Canada Prepares for CF Show Tour

March 13, 2006

OTTAWA, ON - Several well-known Canadian entertainers are currently within 817 kilometres of the geographic North Pole performing for troops serving at Canadian Forces Station Alert and Canadian Forces Base Goose Bay until March 25, 2006.

Kenny Shaw, a multi-talented Musical Comedian from Canada’s west coast, is known for his comedy acts with crafty impressions and musical tributes. He has performed for decades and is considered a master of the stage. Shaw will open and serve as Emcee for the CF Northern Show Tour.

The Northern Show Tour also features Stephanie Cadman, Pascale Pelosse, Diane Chase, and Julian Austin.

With three Canadian step-dancing titles under her belt, Stephanie Cadman’s vocals and classically-Celtic fiddle connects with audiences of all ages. Cadman says, “I am honoured to be chosen to go and put a smile on [the soldiers’] faces.” In addition to her top-notch fiddling, Cadman is also known for her stunning footwork.

After performing on a CF Show Tour in Egypt and Israel last year, Cadman says, “I am so proud of our fellow Canadian (soldiers). They are away from their friends and families for such long periods of time, making our country proud.”

Montréal singer and French pop recording artist Pascale Pelosse and Richard Wood, Prince Edward Island’s fiddling genius, add to the Northern Show Tour. Wood with his traditional Celtic jigs and high-energy step dance and fiddle performances will warm up the stage for Diane Chase.

Sudbury native Diane Chase, with her latest release ‘In the Middle of Something’ earned a top 10 on the Canadian Country Charts and a top 10 for video on Country Music Television.

The Northern Show Tour wraps up with country music singer and songwriter Julian Austin who will perform for the first time at CFS Alert. Austin, who enjoys entertaining Canadian Forces personnel, has put on shows in Bosnia and Afghanistan. Having dedicated his latest song “For the Red and White” to the Canadian Forces, Austin says, “of all the great things I have experienced in my lifetime, performing for our troops sits at the top of my list.”

The group will perform three shows for the troops at CFB Goose Bay in Labrador and at CFS Alert, which is situated on Ellesmere Island and is the northern-most permanent settlement in the world.

CFPSA has a long tradition of providing show tours to CF members serving overseas and in isolated locations. Over the course of a six-month rotation, a CF Show Tour plays an important part in major operations and is always a big morale booster, bringing a small piece of Canada to deployed members.
