Eighty Canadian Forces Runners come to the Capital
May 25, 2005
Ottawa, ON -The top Canadian Forces (CF) regional runners gather to compete in Ottawa at the annual CF National Running Championship. This years' event is held in conjunction with the National Capital Race Weekend from May 27-29, 2005.
At every base, wing, and unit across Canada there are intersection and intramural sporting events for all levels of athletes where regional level winners come to compete at CF National Championships. CF Runners will compete in 5K, 10K, half and full Marathon distances to determine the Annual CF Running Champions.
"The eligibility for this type of competition is tough," says Switch Rousseau, National Sports Manager at the Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency (CFPSA). The best runners from each region must meet a time standard for consideration to represent their region.
The CF National Running Championship is one of thirteen national military sport championships held annually.
CF Running Patron, Brigadier-General Michael Ward and CF Running Chief Official, Lieutenant (N) Wayne Percey will oversee the Championship.
This event is part of the selection process for the Canadian Forces National Team that will compete in the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) Marathon Championships in Venice, Italy from October 28 to November 4, 2005.
With a mandate to raise morale and promote physical fitness within the CF community, the Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency promotes fitness, sport, and health programs for Canadian Forces members in Canada and abroad.
