Valcartier Health Day

By Sylvie Roy, Health Promotion Manager, Valcartier, 418-844-5000 ext. 4678, Roy.S4@forces.gc.ca

On August 25, more than 1,000 people turned out on a sunny day to attend the second edition of Health Day, organized by the Health Promotion Team at Valcartier Garrison.

Numerous activities were proposed for the members, civilian employees, and this year for the first time, families in the community. We wanted to deal with health and well being in a broad sense to arouse the interest of a large number of people. This explained the diversity of booths dealing with mental, physical, spiritual, financial and environmental health. The latter included, in particular, health promotion, resource conservation, the sports and recreation program clubs, chair massage therapy, the Family Centre, the Valcartier Health Centre and several others, including a giant planetarium that focused on climate changes.

Participants also enjoyed a host of athletic activities, including walks along paths, frisbee golf and beach volleyball. Two activities were a big hit, the VIP biathlon, a challenge for unit commanders and their chief warrant officers, and an adventure race open to everyone.

Several door prizes were available thanks to the generous participation of our sponsors. See you next year!
