2006 DND Photography Contest

The winners of the 2006 DND Photography Contest have been selected. As of October 30, these photos will be available for viewing online at www.forces.gc.ca/site/Gallery/contest/index_e.asp.

Of the 972 photos submitted for this year’s contest, the judges awarded approximately 50 (from First Place to Honourable Mention) to both professional and amateur photographers in each of seven categories: Environment, Family Life, Military Life, Open, Portrait, Special Effects, and Sports.

On November 20, the winning photos will be placed on display at National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ), in Ottawa, as part of the contest’s ceremonial opening. The Deputy Minister of Defence will officiate the ceremony and invites DND and NPF,CF from the region to attend. The winning photos will remain on display at NDHQ until November 26.

This year’s contest was made possible due to the generosity of its corporate sponsors, who donated cash and product to be used as prizes: Hewlett-Packard (HP), Nikon, Amplis Foto, Dynamix, Canon, and Valcom.

The contest is organized by the CF Joint Imagery Centre and the CF Personnel Support Agency, under the auspices of the Deputy Minister of National Defence.

Submit your favourite photos next year: Whether an amateur photographer or a seasoned professional, all current and retired personnel of DND/ CF and family members, as well as staff of the NPF, CF, are eligible to participate. The next contest opens in the spring of 2007 – check the Photo Contest web site regularly for details.

Military spouse Lisa A. Scale, won Professional Photographer of the Year for 2006.

Lisa is a professional photographer who operates Bella Photography Inc., in Bolton, Ontario.

“Heaven Sent” was awarded Best of Show in the Professional category and First Place: Professional Portrait category. “Special Delivery” was awarded Third Place: Professional Portrait.
