Connecting CF Youth website registers 500th member!

CFPSA is delighted to announce that the Connecting CF Youth website officially has 500 registered members pointing and clicking through its pages! The site, which went live in September 2005 but was officially launched in February 2006, provides an opportunity for military youth whose families are posted all over the world to surf the site and ‘connect’ with peers.

The Connecting CF Youth website – developed by youth for youth – contains pages of youth-friendly info, fun links, photos and deployment tips all complemented by a chat forum.

“The Connecting CF Youth website caters to a dynamic and unique audience,” says Lara Rooke, National Youth and Recreation Coordinator at CFPSA. “Youth from the CF community experience things that other kids don’t. The website offers a place for youth to talk with others who’ve been through similar circumstances and be reassured that while postings and deployments may not always be fun, they are survivable.”

The concept grew from information provided by a group of youth who attended a Youth Summit in 1999. The most significant.aspect of the website is that the layout, design, and some of the content were developed by a team of techno-savvy CF youth. “I’m planning to use some of the project ideas in my personal website and Ezine,” says one of the youth developers about her experience in the project. “It’s just been a lot of fun!”

Lara Rooke says the website is just the beginning. This Connecting CF Youth initiative is the first component of the four-part National Youth Model to be developed. The website will be one of the vehicles through which the upcoming phases will run.
