Despite the weather, families armed with raincoats and hats came out for the annual 17 Wing Family Fun Day on September 16. Headed by the MFRC in partnership with numerous organizations–Health Promotion, Community Recreation, and Fitness & Sports–the annual event brought in over 600 military members and their families.

This year’s event took on a new and ambitious role, with the addition of the Amazing Race (lead by Fitness & Sport), the Helping Professional Showcase (headed by Health Promotion), and evening entertainment for youth, children, and adults. The Amazing Race brought out six family teams who, like the television show teams, had to run from clue box to clue box, completing tasks to move forward

The goal of the first ever Helping Professionals Showcase was to make people aware of the services available on the wing. Sixteen organizations, units, and groups participated: Health Promotion, 23 Health Services, Mental Health, WAC, Dental, Military Police, Learning Career Centre, Dietitian, Dispute Resolution Centre, WPSO, OSISS, OSI Clinic, MFRC, Employee Assistance Program, and SISIP FS

Activities included Fatal Vision Goggles “Walk the Line,” a teddy bear clinic, blood pressure clinic, ambulance tours, fingerprinting and child identification, holiday greeting card making for deployed troops, food models, proper teeth cleaning, free giveaways, draws, and of course, program material.

The feedback we received was very positive. Everyone who attended the event had a great time and received some valuable information.
