For a fourth year, the Canadian Forces Exchange System's (CANEX) annual Trim our Tree for a Toonie Campaign to benefit the Military Police Fund for Blind Children (MPFBC) has proven an incredible success.
On Tuesday, May 30, CANEX executives presented LCol David Shuster, Chair and LCdr Lucie Tremblay, Secretary, of the Military Police Fund for Blind Children (MPFBC) with a check in the amount of $10,000 - the total raised through CANEX's 2005 Christmas fundraising drive - at CANEX HQ in Ottawa.
"This is the most significant contribution we have received to date from the Trim our Tree Campaign," declared LCol Shuster as he thanked CANEX President Gerry Mahon for CANEX's incredible work over the years to support the MPFBC.
Over $25,000 has been raised since the Trim our Tree for a Toonie program was conceived in 2002 by employees of a CANEX operation in the Maritime. Throughout December, paper ornaments are sold for two dollars (100 per cent goes to the MPFBC) to decorate Christmas trees in CANEX locations at each of its operations across the country.
The Military Police Fund for Blind Children (MPFBC) was created in 1957 to enhance the quality of life and improve self-confidence of young people living with visual impairments through the provision of equipment, computers, and grants for field trips, summer camps, and more.
