Andy Andrews Retires
The song "Oh, I want to drive, a Zamboni" must have been written for Andy, Arena Supervisor at 19 Wing Comox Glacier Gardens Arena.

Andy Andrews has been working as the arena supervisor for the CFB Comox Glacier Gardens Arena for three decades. At the end of this season the Ice Guru will perform his final oval on the Zamboni. Over the past 29 years Andy has been going around in circles for the benefit of hockey players, broomball players, figure skaters, casual skaters, referees, coaches and many others, in both military and civilian communities up and down Vancouver Island.

When Andy first started, there was only one arena in the Comox Valley, and it was Glacier Gardens. Some of the greats that have skated on Andy's ice include: Comox's own Brett McLean of the Colorado Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes captain, Rod Brind'Amour from Campbell River, Port McNeil's Willie Mitchell from the Dallas Stars, Dave "Tiger" Williams of Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs fame.

The PSP staff, along with the Silver Totems Hockey Team and members of the Wing Inter-Section Hockey League, arranged for two seats for Andy and his wife Pat to take in a Vancouver Canucks game. When the Vancouver Canucks took on the Minnesota Wild on March 31, Andy rode along with their staff on the ice resurfacer between periods. In return he agreed to pass along some trade secrets so the staff of GM Place can have their ice surface up to his standards for the 2010 Olympics.

To top off this weekend getaway, the Sandman Hotel in Vancouver arranged for Andy and his wife to stay at their hotel and dine at Moxi's restaurant before the game.

We are sure going to miss you Andy. Thank you from all those who have had the pleasure of meeting you and skating on your ice.

Two PSP instructors in Valcartier received the 5 ASG Commander's Commendation. Col Gerry Champagne presented these awards to Vincent Meunier and Côme Desrocher in recognition of the quality of the specialized physical fitness program for the Valcartier military members reporting for selection for the counter-terrorist force (JTF 2). Members of the LFQA went through this quality program and achieved unequalled results.
