On May 17, 2006, the 8th edition of the Mérite Sportif "Lion d'Or" took place at CFB Valcartier. In total, there were more than 150 athletes, 100 Commanding Officers and Unit Regimental sergeants majors and 40 collaborators who came out to attend the very colourful annual event. Col Champagne, the 5 ASG CO and patron of the event, generously loaned his name to the humorous theme of the ceremony, "The Champagne Commission", the purpose of which was to shed light on several nebulous events that our teams had brought about last year.

Thanks to our numerous collaborators, more than $14,000 was given directly to the athletes, which was raised from draws and door prizes and from two spectacular acrobatic performances by professional artists.

Hosts of the evening were Côme Desrochers and Guylaine Veilleux, both of whom are physical education instructors.

The "Gala du Lion d'Or" required six months of preparation and exceptional cohesiveness on the part of all PSP members of the Sports Centre, the persons who made this event a reality.

The purpose of the ceremony was to shine the spotlight on our military athletic community and reveal the winners of the five prizes of achievement.

  • Official of the year
  • Coach of the year
  • Team of the year
  • Female athlete of the year
  • Male athlete of the year
  • The winners in each of these categories have been nominated for the National Gala.
