Saying Thanks

By Bob Mann

Saying Thanks Kitchen staff getting ready for the morning rush. From R to L: Brad Miller, Golf Club Manager; Laura Graves, Assistant Manager; Vaughn Purcell, WOs’& Sgts’ Mess Manager, all under the watchful eye of Denise Allen, Kitchen Supervisor.

At Edmonton Garrison, “Serving Those Who Serve” takes place in an environment where customs and traditions are important. One of them is our annual NPF Employee Appreciation Breakfast.

This year’s breakfast took place October 18 at the Golf & Curling Club restaurant. Managers scrambled eggs, made toast, fried hash browns, served plates of food, filled coffee cups, and every other imaginable task. They did a fine job. The food was well prepared, nicely presented, and enjoyed by all that morning.

The Commanding Officer, LCol Al Markewicz, and the Garrison sergeant major, MWO Bob St. Pierre, were invited to join us for breakfast. The Commanding Officer presented long service awards to five of our employees.

Ten year service awards went to Karen Gaudette, WOs’ & Sgts’ Mess Bar Supervisor, Colin Gibson, Twin Rinks Arena Manager, and Donna Lee Sawatzky, CANEX Expressmart Manager. Geraldine Arey, the Expressmart Supervisor, received a 15 year award. Next came a presentation to mark the 35th anniversary of Jean Wolter, Accounting Office Supervisor. Jean began her career with NPF in December 1969 as the CANEX Auto Club cashier in Lahr, Germany. Next came a posting to Edmonton where she continued working for CANEX. In 1978 Jean took a job with the NPF accounting office in Moose Jaw, and she’s been with NPF accounting since then.

Saying Thanks Jean Wolter receiving an award for 35 years service. From R to L: Dick Jackman, Regional Accounting Manager; Jean Wolter, Accounting Office Supervisor; LCol Al Markewicz, Commanding Officer CFB/ASU Edmonton; and Tony Adams PSP Manager.

Our Employee Appreciation Breakfast is not only a great opportunity to say thanks to our staff, and enjoy a tasty breakfast among good company, but it also serves as the ideal opportunity to acknowledge the commitment and long service of people like Jean, Karen, Colin, Donna Lee, and Geraldine.

The managers at Edmonton Garrison have now hung up their aprons for another year, satisfied with a job well done, “Serving Those Who Serve.”
