Seven Ottawa employees received the General Service Medal for serving with CFPSA as part of OP ATHENA in Afghanistan. The ceremony took place Sept. 12, 2005 at CFPSA HQ in Ottawa, with MGen Langton handing out the medals.

For Ian Petrie, the bar supervisor at the RCAF Officers’ Mess in Ottawa, the high point of his tour was seeing the resiliency of the Afghan people following 30 years of war. “Especially the children, that’s all they’ve known, is war,” he says. “To look into their eyes, and see their faces, they are such a happy people inside. They weren’t defeated by it at all. It’s incredible.”
