There must be something in the air here folks. Something contagious, I think. For all you germaphobes out there, don’t worry, I’m talking about job satisfaction. It would appear there is a high level of it among students at CFPSA.

Upon completion of work-terms and temporary student contracts, students are leaving with happy memories, new friends, and fatter portfolios!

CFPSA Headquarters and Bases/Wings/Units across the country are taking advantage of student availability. Hiring a student enables departments to have extra ‘hands on deck’. This is especially beneficial during the scorching summer months, when many full time employees choose to take their vacation.

Students like Aisling O’Brien appreciate the fact that CFPSA offers student employment opportunities. “I’ve really enjoyed my time here,” says Aisling. “I worked with DMFS. They are a fantastic group of people. It was a terrific experience for me.”

For students, working here is a chance to have a little taste of their chosen career path. It is an excellent confidence-builder, and a great way be exposed to “the real world”.

Tom Neirobis was thrilled to finally be able to put his video-editing skills to work in the D Comm section. “The moment I realized hey, I can really do this,” explains Tom “all the late nights working on projects and cramming for final exams were suddenly worth it.”

Another advantage for students is that they are fortunate enough to be working side-by-side with professionals, who can teach them some tried and true tips from the trade.

“Working with the IT department was a great opportunity for me to gain valuable tech experience,” says student Michael DiVirgilio. “The guys I worked with were very helpful, and taught me many things that will help me in the future.”

Although Human Resources can find ways to help you subsidize some of the cost, not everyone has room leftover in their budget to cover the expense of student wages.

Did you know that many college and university programs require students to participate in a ‘work placement’? These are mandatory hours a student must complete in order to graduate. Essentially, you can “hire” a student for free!

Imagine, a well-trained, enthusiastic student, who can bring a breath of fresh air into your department, all for the low price of zero dollars!

At some point during his seven-week work placement, Lee Howard was bitten by the CFPSA bug. “During my placement, I worked on a few different projects that enabled me to utilize the skills I had developed at school,” says Lee. He went on to working for SISIP FS as a Communications Assistant for three months.
