Human Resources Offers Handy Web Tools

By Matthew Bergamin

The CFPSA website provides its users with many interesting and useful tools.

It is a vast information source, containing literally hundreds of articles about the CF and the CFPSA. With so much information, how do you know where to look?

Well, one area that has recently made additions on their website is the Human Resources section. To get there, go to www.cfpsa.com, click on the Services tab and then select Human Resources. The HR Division has recently added several new services to this section.

Under the Official Languages sub-section’s “Writing and Translation Tips” you are able to view a toolbox which offers you a wide range of terminology resources that will help you solve your trickiest language problems. It has four components: a bilingual dictionary to help translate words, a unilingual dictionary to help you understand the meaning of a term, a writing tools module where you can find rules on style and usage, and a collection of cutting-edge terminology that lets you master the jargon specific to certain fields. The Linguistic Maintenance sub-section offers a variety of resources. There are links to radio and TV programs for people wishing to better understand their second language. There are also numerous self-study programs, as well as quizzes and games in both languages. This is a one-stop shop for all your language needs.

When you’re done brushing up on your French (or English) you can check out the Training and Development section. The Human Resources Division provides education assistance to develop your career under the subsidized career and development program (SECDP). All full-time employees are offered up to $500 per year for education and training. The site also offers training resources with a massive list of courses whether it be job-related, job enhancement or career development.

One of the great additions is the Pension Estimator, which you’ll find under the Pension & Benefits section. This is exactly what it sounds like: you enter your expected age at retirement, your expected years of service (at your retirement date) and your annual salary; the program calculates your expected monthly pension payment.

Please note that the estimator is for information and planning purposes only. Your actual pension payment will be based on your actual pensionable earnings and actual years of service at the date of retirement. Go ahead and try it out!

The above are but a few examples of the resources available at www.cfpsa.com. The website is a wealth of information, so keep surfing and who knows what you’ll find. There’s something for everyone!

Look for the new Travel Services section under the Services tab of the CFPSA website.
