BASE COMMANDER VISITS NEW CANEX SITE

On July 23, Base Commander Capt(N) MacIsaac; toured the future location of the new CANEX facility at Windsor Park, Halifax.

The new 12,500 square foot CANEX store, which is scheduled to open in November 2004, is necessary due to the closing of the PMQ area at Shannon Park. It will be located near the Halifax Military Resource Centre (HMFRC) and other PSP outlets.

"The new CANEX outlet will give us the opportunity to optimize service to CANEX patrons," says Glenn Banfield, CFB Halifax CANEX manager.

The grand opening of the CANEX Café Express at the new Star Top building took place Oct. 5th at 11 a.m. CANEX staff welcomed customers by serving a Thanksgiving turkey with all the trimmings for just $6.99.

Saturday, May 22, the St-Jean Garrison hosted 350 people for a family day, courtesy of SISIP FS and CANEX. The film “Le papillon bleu” (The Blue Butterfly) was shown to the entire military community and their families. The film's producer, Mr. Brossard, an entomologist who founded the Insectarium de Montréal, was on hand and gave an excellent presentation before the viewing. Aside from recounting his actual experience in the film, he brought several insects, such as centipedes, tarantulas and scorpions.

The sod breaking ceremony launching construction on the future Tim Hortons, Ultramar gas station and convenience store took place on August 11, 2004 in Valcartier. This project is jointly funded by CANEX and NPF and the building will be completed in late December 2004.

There have been a few changes lately in the Montreal region health promotion services. Alice Piotrowski (right) has been named Health Promotion Director for the Montreal and St-Jean regions, taking the place of Cathia Huot who recently left. Manon Morency (left), Health Promotion Administrative Assistant, previously from the Montreal Garrison, was repatriated to the St-Jean Garrison.
