CFPSA/NPF Employee Survey

Action Plan

In 2002, all NPF employees were invited to participate in the first CFPSA/NPF Employee Survey. Approximately 2,800 of the 5,500 NPF employees across the country took part, answering questions in the areas of Communication and Education, Recruitment and Selection, Training and Development, Compensation, and Health and Safety.

Survey results have been compiled and an action plan has been endorsed by the Non Public Property (NPP) Board of Directors. Here are two examples:

Training and Development

Issue: 43% of surveyed NPF employees responded that their immediate supervisors are not assisting them in their career development. When asked to identify eight factors that adversely affect career progress in the CFPSA/NPF, 24% agreed that there was lack of access to learning opportunities and 22% agreed that there was lack of access to developmental assignments.

The plan: Management to encourage employees to participate in the Succession Planning by being coaches and mentors. Management will also identify and publish CF courses accessible to NPF employees.

Health and Safety

Issue: 18% of surveyed NPF employees responded that their supervisors and managers are not committed to ensuring occupational health and safety in the workplace. 19% of employees responded that they do not know where to go for help in resolving health and safety issues.

The plan: Management to ensure compliance with the new NPP policy on occupational health and safety; including an oversight role for Workplace Occupational Health and Safety Committees (WHOSC). Management to also ensure that all employees are briefed on their responsibilities as well as trained on needs dictated by their jobs. Committee minutes and the names of designated building health and safety representatives will be posted on employee bulletin boards.
