Director Military Family Services (DMFS) recently launched the new way ahead for the Military Family Services Program (MFSP) at a Leadership Forum held April 15 to 18, 2004 in Cornwall, Ont. Over 150 MFSP stakeholders were introduced to the programs new mission and principles, accountability framework, revised service policies and new approach to funding C/MFRCs.
The new guiding document, MFSP: Parameters for Practice, reflects extensive consultation with C/MFRCs, local commanders and other stakeholders. While the MFSP services and target population essentially remain unchanged, the new way ahead is designed to give C/MFRCs maximum flexibility in determining which services to offer and how services should be delivered. Celine Thompson, Director Military Family Services, noted The document will lay the foundation for a new relationship between the Directorate and C/MFRCs and will ultimately enhance services to military families.
Forum participants were also provided with a copy of the revised and redesigned version of the Good Practice and Resource Guide: Risk Management Planning for MFRCs. The guide was developed to provide MFRCs with resource materials that would help them make their risk management efforts more integrated and comprehensive.
The MFSP Leadership Forum was the culmination of more than a years work by DMFS staff. Celine Thompson commented, The DMFS team distinguished themselves this past year with their hard work and dedication. They have a lot to be proud of.
