From the President and Chief Executive Officer
Spring is a time of renewal, when creative energy starts to flow, and new ideas burst forth.

So the timing was good for the Regional Morale and Welfare NPF Conferences, held in Halifax, Ottawa and Edmonton from mid-April to mid-May.
With the theme "Working Together," the regional conferences were a follow-up to the CFPSA National Conference held in Ottawa in 2002.
Seminars addressed development and awareness issues, from learning about the CDS Guidance Document, to how to handle stress, as well as providing staff with information for deployed operations. Workshops sought feedback from the participants in the areas of Ethics, Customer Relations Management (CRM), Employee Relations Management (ERM) and the development of policies. Department heads gave us a run down of previous activities and a look at what the way ahead is for the next few years. All of the presentations, workshops and seminars provided lots of information, which led to discussion on approaches for better understanding of renewed development. And it is in talking amongst ourselves, and in exchanging ideas that those seeds can germinate into innovative and smarter ways of doing business.

These regional gatherings gave all of us a chance to put aside our busy schedules, and re-connect to share ideas, discuss key issues and brainstorm ways to enhance the quality and delivery of our programs.
With the increased workloads that we all face, we have to find ways to work smarter, not harder because we dont want to burn out our people. The success of our organization lies in the quality of our people, and the personal commitment and belief you all have in the mission and vision of CFPSA and the NPF universe. By working together, it creates a synergy that breeds success and therefore takes us far beyond what individual efforts can achieve. And this synergy grows as not only individuals, but divisions work toward a common goal. It is this collective striving for excellence, and a willingness to challenge the status quo that provides enhanced value to the organization, and ultimately the members of the CF and their families.
All of this in line with a personal philosophy, which is four fold:
- People matter
- Grow ideas
- Enhance value
- Strive for excellence
I also believe that this can all be accomplished through clear and relevant policies and procedures which we are endeavouring to put in place through the Corporate Strategic Plan. Hence, I invite you to read the CDS Guidance Document, the CFPSA five year Strategic Plan (March 04) and to keep apprised of the development in the policies of Health and Safety, Harassment Prevention and Employment Equity. Another good way to get all of the ideas flowing is to talk face to face, on the phone or by email with your fellow employees, share the Apropos, visit the CFPSA Web site and above all smell the roses. Were all here together Serving Those Who Serve.
