Come See What’s New at the Centre Castor

On March 13, the 5 ASG Valcartier’s Executive Committee approved a restructuring plan for the Centre Castor. The position of Director and Manager were eliminated while the position of Centre Coordinator was created.
Jean-François Caouette joined the Centre on April 5 as Centre Castor Coordinator. He brings with him solid experience in recreation program management which he acquired while working at the community recreation office.
Mr. Caouette and his staff sum up their vision for the Centre: “The Centre Castor is the centre par excellence in outdoor activities for the Valcartier military community.”
A golf club is slated to open on May 1, 2004, but in the meantime, golf enthusiasts can practice their favourite sport at the indoor driving range, new at the Centre this year. Richard Barry, a golf instructor, has joined the team and will soon be offering private and group lessons as well as golf clinics. He will also be in charge of the Centre’s pro shop.
The Centre’s employees did some major spring cleaning and invite everyone to come in and admire the upgrades and new additions such as a restaurant with a selective menu and first-rate sit-down service.
Centre regulars as well as newcomers will be delighted to see a brand new outdoors equipment shop, where they can rent equipment such as kayaks, canoes, snowshoes, cross-country skis, bikes and much more for all their outdoor activities.
Here are some of the bold undertakings planned for the Centre:
- Construction of an ice tower to promote the sport of face climbing;
- The Hunting and Fishing Club’s headquarters will be moving to the Centre after the 2004 season, thus bringing golfers, fishers and hunters under one roof.
- We are looking for volunteers to head up outdoors clubs such as a bike club and an archery club.
- Snowboard lovers could see their dreams come true thanks to the snowboard park construction project at Mont Brillant.
The Centre’s new management team is young, dynamic, bold and focused on customer service. Come and meet Jean-François Caouette and his team and see all the changes and upgrades for yourself.
