A group of extremely talented entertainers and sound/light technicians traveled to Egypt and Israel December 7-17 to spread some holiday cheer and provide a morale boost to troops serving with Op CALUMET, the Canadian contribution to the Multinational Force and Observers in the Sinai desert, Egypt, and Op DANACA, our commitment to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force.

Country music star Lisa Brokop, singer Tania Hancheroff, Comedian Will Davis, the Groove Street Dancers and Poly-Esther, were accompanied on the tour by myself and Howie Woodruff of the CFPSA Training Centre.

The positive impact of these show tours cannot be overstated. Our personnel, though well served while on deployment, are still far away from loved ones and the comforts of home. This is challenging at the best of times but is even more difficult over the holidays.

The tour left me with a lasting impression. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been involved directly in what CFPSA does for our deployed troops, often with little recognition. I have gained a new respect for the work our CF members perform in all corners of the world, 365 days a year and 24 hours a day. Considering all they do for us, bringing them a little piece of home and a bit of a distraction seems the least we can do for them.
