CANEX Food Services Ottawa partnered with Line 1000 on the Skills and Learning Hospitality Project earlier in 2003 in Ottawa. Line 1000 is a community based non-profit employment agency, which has been providing individualized assistance since 1979 to people with disabilities in the Ottawa area. Through this project, CANEX Food Services in the National Capital Region provided employment opportunities for five individuals looking for food service work experience.
This past December, CANEX Food Services Ottawa was nominated for the Line 1000 Employer Award, along with The National Research Council, Dovercourt Recreation Centre, Delta Ottawa Hotel and Suites, and Algonquin College. This award recognizes that employing persons with disabilities is good business practice and exemplifies innovation and flexibility in the workplace. Although CANEX Food Services Ottawa did not win the award, the recognition it received at The Celebration of People Awards Dinner on the United Nations International Day of Disabled Persons greatly underscores the commitment of the staff to Employment Equity and to an inclusive workplace.
Great support from Mr. Emile Lebel, Ottawa Area Food Services Manager, Mrs. Dianne Bruce, NDHQ Cafeteria Manager and Ms. Debbie LeClair, Coventry Food Services Supervisor contributed to this very successful endeavor for CANEX and its staff. Congratulations on a job well done!
