The Third Personal Financial Management Education Program is in Full Swing!

In October 2003, SISIP Financial Services kicked off the third course of the Personal Financial Management Education Program. The new course entitled Leadership and Financial Support is aimed at future Warrant Officers/1st Class Petty Officers registered in the CF Intermediate Leadership Qualification (ILQ).

In this course, participants discuss the following subjects for 90 minutes with a SISIP Financial Planner and Financial Counsellor: some of the causes of financial problems in order to understand them and recognize the symptoms and the impact, the services offered by SISIP to get financial support and the leadership activities to be undertaken. After this training, participants will be able to prevent, identify and help resolve the financial problems of their subordinates by using the resources available to them within the CF.

SISIP is proud of the results obtained so far. Among the eight groups that have taken the course, 90% of the 240 participants said they were satisfied or more than satisfied with the training they received and believe they will now be better equipped to support their subordinates who are struggling with financial difficulties.

The Personal Financial Management Education Program was created in October 1998 after the Program Management Board (PMB) approved the quality of life Financial Counselling initiative to deliver personal financial management education programs. The main goal of the program is to give CF members and their families the tools to incorporate financial health principles into their daily decisions. This will enable them to become financially independent and allow them to enjoy a healthier financial future.

SISIP has already implemented two other courses since July 2001. In the first course, Personal Financial Management, recruits and officer cadets learn as part of basic training how to manage their personal financial affairs by becoming familiar with basic financial management principles. The other course, Leadership and Personal Finances, is designed for Master Corporals/Master seamen registered in the Primary Leadership Qualification Program and provides them with tools to help their subordinates solve financial problems.

SISIP is proud to have been mandated by the CF to develop a formal Personal Financial Management Education for CF personnel and their families and to have yet another opportunity to provide them with Financial Solutions for Today…and Tomorrow!
