Kingston’s base commander, Col Guy Thibault, accepts a $4,000 cheque from SISIP branch manager Dan Andrews.

Through a pilot project delivered in partnership with SISIP Financial Services, PSP and Military Family Resource Centres (MFRCs), volunteer recognition events have been taken to a whole new level.

As varied and fabulous as the volunteers themselves, a variety of events were held in celebration of the essential contribution that volunteers make within the CF community. While some locations chose to celebrate with a more formal sit down dinner and awards presentation, others put a new twist on an old idea. There were pig roasts and BBQs, casino nights and boat cruises; some groups even held special events for youth volunteers only.

By all accounts these events were the best-planned and most meaningful volunteer recognition events CF communities have seen. SISIP support and PSP/MFRC imagination have certainly proven to be a meaningful and successful partnership!

Thank you to all who have lent their support and imagination. It is certain that the planning has already started for next year’s events…

CF Volunteer recognition event testimonials

Borden held a gala evening at the Officers’ Mess.

Borden – “The youth volunteer recognition event was a huge success. The event allowed youth volunteers from the Borden Community to be brought together and recognized with speeches, certificates, medallions and a special outing. The partnership between PSP and the Borden MFRC allowed the youth to see that they are not alone, they are making a difference and they are appreciated.” Line Sorel/Dee Bernier, Borden

Bagotville – “People are still talking about how much they enjoyed themselves.” Claire Deschenes, Community Recreation Coordinator

Winnipeg – “The event has been highly complimented and the volunteer comments included ‘best ever.’” Melissa Davidson, Community Recreation Director

Meaford – “SISIP sponsorship made this possible! It was so successful that we would like to continue honoring our volunteers in a joint recognition event.” Valerie Deacon, Meaford MFRC Volunteer Coordinator

Kingston – “Thank you very much to SISIP for this contribution. For the first time on this base we were able to offer this type of evening to all volunteers as a combined event. It was really appreciated by everyone.” Regis Bouchard, Community Recreation Coordinator
