Established in 1992, the Toronto Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) served families in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) from a standard DND-issue, 1940’s administration building until June of this year. Realizing early in 2000 that DND would be closing their facility and transferring the land to Canada Lands Corporation, the Toronto MFRC Board of Directors and staff embarked upon a project that would change their lives and those of the families they serve.

Opened in June 2003, the centre is a prime example of how collaborative partnerships can produce beneficial results. More than 75 people were involved in the design, construction and management of this project including: past and present Toronto MFRC Board of Directors, staff, community members, and volunteers; the Department of National Defence including Land Forces Central Area (LFCA) HQ (with Mark Zoledowski as manager of this project), Area Support Unit (Toronto); PWGSC (with Richard Doucette as the Architect), Defence Construction Canada, Rand Construction; CFPSA including PSP and DMFS; and many others.
