Meet New Labour Relations Legal Advisor Margaret Shannon

Margaret Shannon recently joined the Labour Relations (LR) Section of the Human Resources Division of the Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency (CFPSA) as our Labour Relations Legal Advisor. Margaret’s primary areas of responsibility include assisting clients with disciplinary, performance and termination cases, representing our interests at mediation, adjudication before various administrative tribunals and in certain Court and litigious matters, investigating and resolving grievances and complaints, drafting and interpreting contractual agreements and legal documents, and interpreting and providing advice regarding our various Collective Agreements, policies, laws and regulations.

Margaret holds a B.A. from St. Thomas University in Fredericton, a law degree specializing in administrative and labour law from the University of New Brunswick, and certificates in business and public administration from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Athabasca University. She is a member of the Law Society of New Brunswick and has practiced in the area of labour and employment law in both the private and public sectors, since her admission to the Bar in 1983. Margaret has had the benefit of extensive labour relations experience from both the union and employer perspectives. For eight years she was legal counsel to the New Brunswick Public Employees Association, representing 10 different bargaining groups. Her most recent experience, prior to joining the CFPSA, was in the hospital sector in New Brunswick as an employer representative.
