Asfia Sultan

Meet Asfia Sultan, CFPSA's new Human Rights and Harassment Prevention Advisor. Her extensive work experience in the Canadian human rights domain gives Asfia the right tools for policy development, education and training, consultation, investigation, and mediation on all matters related to human rights and harassment.

Asfia's main focus for this year is to develop a more comprehensive policy and accompanying procedures on harassment, which will include clear guidelines, such as:

  • What are your rights and responsibilities under the Canadian Humans Rights Act?
  • What to do if you feel your rights have been violated?
  • Who to contact if you have a complaint?

Basically, the Canadian Human Rights Act is about treating everybody with respect and dignity regardless of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, or family status, and Asfia is well versed in the benefits if this act. "If we, as a company ensure that we look after our internal customers (our employees), they will be happier and better equipped to serve our external customers in a respectful way," she says. "For this, I want our employees to feel comfortable enough to come forward with anything, and I plan to be accessible 24/7."

For neutrality, accessibility, confidentiality, and impartiality, Asfia is located at arms length from CFPSA headquarters in the Copeland building on Albert Street in Ottawa.
