Update on the CFRT receiver installations on HMC Ships

As of April 2002, the CFPSA has provided satellite radio and television on a 24 hours per day seven days a week basis, to HMC Ships deployed in the Persian Gulf region. This service provides the CF deployed personnel with access to Canadian news programming such as Canada AM, The National, CJOH News, Global Edmonton, and Victoria CH News. It also allows them to watch their favourite sports such as NHL hockey, CFL and NFL football, as well as popular Canadian variety programming such as the Red Green Show, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, and the Royal Canadian Air Farce.

In January 2003 The HMCS Regina is scheduled to be outfitted with SeaTel satellite receiving equipment, joining the HMC Ships Fredericton, Protecteur, Montreal, St Johns, Algonquin and Winnipeg that have all been previously outfitted to access the CFRT live television service. This helps to establish an important, continuous link for CF personnel, with home and family while deployed on Op Apollo.
