Deployed Operations

Congratulations to Danny (Darko) Perkovic, Rest and Recreation (R&R) Coordinator in Split, Croatia. Danny received the first ever Commandant’s Commendation awarded to deployed operations personnel. The award was presented in April by Colonel D. Brazeau, Commander of Task Force Bosnia-Herzegovina (TFBH) roto 9. Danny was recognized for his exemplary professionalism, immeasurable efforts, and overall dedication to the R&R center in Split during rotations 8 and 9 of OP PALLADIUM.

Jean-Louis Otis, Sports and Recreation Coordinator at Camp Maple Leaf in Zgon, received a Commandantfs Certificate of Achievement from Lieutenant-Colonel Lessard for his initiative, motivation, and keen sense of anticipation during his rotation in Zgon from January to July 2002.

Donation to the Edmonton
Military Family Services

ADGA Group, a Canadian owned Group of companies that provides Systems Engineering and Management Consulting services to DND, donated $5,000 to the Edmonton Military Family Support Services. "ADGA wants to express in a tangible way our solidarity to the serving soldiers in Afghanistan and our sympathy and support to their families and friends" said Mr. Denis Gagnon, President of ADGA.

New Recruits Video

The video entitled "Cause you have a life" was filmed at CFB Borden in July 2002 and casts many "real life" actors from that base.

Nova Scotia Federal Council Award

Congratulations to Ms. Jill Bishop, Community Recreation Coordinator; Mr. Fred Williams, Community Recreation Director; and Ms. Terri Abbott, Community Centre Administrative Assistant of the 14 Wing Greenwood Community Centre who received a Nova Scotia Federal Council Award for their creative and tireless support to the local community.

Kids in Taipei

Canadian Forces youth from the 14 Wing area ranging in age from 12 to 16, competed in basketball and track and field events in the 35th International Children's Games held in Taipei from August 31 to September 3, 2002. The Girls basketball team won a bronze medal, Paul McBean placed 7th in the 400 m race with a time of 55 minutes and 44 seconds, and Kyle Henshaw placed 10th in the same event with a time of 55 minutes and 87 seconds. Unfortunately, Katherine Wadden broke her arm during practice drills in Taipei and was unable to compete but she still had a wonderful experience and a chance of a lifetime to visit Taipei.

Cross Country

The 2nd Annual Military Cross Country Challenge held at CFB Petawawa in June 2002 was an enormous success thanks to the hard work and dedication of the PSP Fitness and Sports Staff. Next year, the Cross Country Challenge consisting of a 10 km run, 10km bike and 5 km run through the training area, will be held in June to encourage entries from all civilian and military Defence Team Members across Canada. So lace up your shoes and start training for next year!

Last June, CANEX opened a new retail store and a redesigned grocery store in Valcartier, QU. The 5e GSS commander, Col D. Benjamin and CANEX President, Jean-Marie Pérusse were present for these two inaugurations.
