The NPF profits from CANEX operations are distributed to Base, Wing and Unit Funds to be used by the Canadian Forces (CF) to finance a wide variety of social programs for the benefit of military personnel and their dependants. Physical fitness, sports and recreational programs are among the main recipients of CANEX funds; examples of these programs include skating, curling and swimming as well as Scouts and Guides, libraries, hobbyist activities and more. As well, CANEX profits help to support military financial services offered through SISIP/CFPAF, such as low cost loans and grants to CF members and their families. NPF funds are further used to financially assist Bases, Wings and Units through CFPSA and Canadian Forces Central Fund (CFCF) grants for special projects.
CANEX includes a retail operation at the NATO Air Base at Geilenkirchen, Germany under the name NATEX, and an automobile and sales transaction office under the name AMSTO.
