Broomball Boosts Profile
The Canadian Forces (CF) national broomball program is paying dividends on the national stage after the CF women's and men's national teams placed a respectable 5th out of 10 teams on the women's side and 6th out 12 teams on the men's at this spring's civilian Canadian Nationals held in Calgary.
The CF has a history of participating in civilian broomball tournaments both locally and nationally. According to CF Broomball Representative Corporal Mario Raby, the CF's involvement on the civilian national broomball scene is having a big impact on the sport.
"Many local broomball communities rely heavily on the Canadian Forces and its personnel for facilities and organizational committees," says Raby. "Advancing to the Canadian Broomball Federation Nationals is a great incentive in recruiting of new players.
Further bolstering CF's status within the civilian national Broomball arena the Canadian Broomball Federation, has recently accepted the CF as a permanent member of the Federation.
The men's team, many of whom were from Valcartier played extremely well and went on to acheive the 3rd position. They succeeded in beating the NWT team in the semi-final match. The championship's hosting team was their next challenge. Despite the early lead acquired by the CF team the Calgary team came back scoring two quick goals leaving the representive team with a respectable Silver medal on the B side and a 6th position overall.
