MFF Gala in Calgary a Big Success
Calgarians stepped up to help by raising over $100,000.00 for the Military Families Fund (MFF) at a gala held in their city on June 14.
Five hundred and ten guests enjoyed a spectacular evening at the Military Families Fund Gala hosted by Gen Rick Hillier and his wife Joyce at the Imperial Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Calgary, which was billed Families First – A Night to Remember.
Canadian and local businesses contributed to the evening’s success with their generous sponsorships and donation of prizes for the auction and tombola balloons (prize filled balloons). A one week cruise off the coast of British Columbia for up to 8 persons, a tour of a diamond mine and, a 1966 Lincoln were just a few of the amazing prizes awarded to lucky attendees.
Master of Ceremonies, Kenny Shaw, kept the audience entertained with his own unique brand of comedy, while celebrity auctioneer and former Calgary Flames defenseman, Colin Patterson, persuaded them to part with their hard-earned green backs. The evening was filled with entertainment with performances by: the Calgary Highlander Drum Line, Gemini Award Nominee Mike MacDonald, the Juno-award winning country band The Wilkinsons, and the Prime Time Big Band. Dinner music was provided by the HMCS Tecumseh Dixie Land Band.
Special guests included Calgary Mayor David Bronconnier, Alberta’s Lieutenant Governor, Norman Kwong, Members of Parliament Lee Richardson and Art Hanger, Calgary-Egmont MLA, Jonathan Denis, and the Alberta Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Allison Redford.
Thank you to everyone who attended, supported, donated or volunteered for the MFF Calgary Gala. A special thank you to all our Corporate Sponsors.
