CDS GalaFamilies First... A Night to Remember!
CDS GALA…A SUCCESS STORY!
On Saturday, 3 November, 600 persons converged on the Canadian War Museum to attend the CDS Gala, hosted by none other than Gen Rick Hillier and his wife, Joyce. The event was a tremendous success, both in raising funds for the Military Families Fund, and in providing everyone with “A Night to Remember.”
Rick Mercer was outstanding as the Master of Ceremony, as were all of the artists who performed for the crowd: Terry Kelly, Julian Austin, The Partland Brothers and a special appearance from Nathalie MacMaster. The Stevens & Kennedy Band as well as our very own Canadian Forces String Ensemble both serenaded guests and had people twirling around the dance floor. Julie Côté and her husband from Shilo performed a very touching piece and delighted the crowd. An important highlight of the evening was the silent and live auctions, where guests heatedly bid against each other, all in the aim of supporting the Military Families Fund.
The aim of the evening was not only to honour military families but also to acknowledge the generosity of our major contributors and the Canadian public as well as to raise funds for the Military Families Fund. The event was a complete success in all aspects. $55,000 was raised and donated to the Fund.
