NETFILE, one of the CCRA's newest electronic filing services, allows almost all Canadians to file their tax returns over the internet. The major advantages include faster refunds, improved accuracy, and immediate confirmation of receipt.

Last year, more than 1.4 million Canadians used NETFILE. As of March 18th, 2002, CCRA has received 614,732 returns, which represents an increase of 60% over last year at the same date.

Additional information about the NETFILE service is available at www.netfile.gc.ca .

The Interactive Information Service is an additional channel for accessing tax information, available through the CCRA web site www.ccra.gc.ca/iis .

The Service:

  • provides clients with information and assistance in a self-service environment, 24 hours per day, 7 days a week;
  • uses a decision tree / question and answer system to guide clients to personalized but non-account specific information for the 2001 tax year, and;
  • displays, for each topic, definitions and references that are hyper-linked to source material on the CCRA web site, and other Government of Canada sites.

Address Changes Online was launched by the CCRA on February 25, 2002. This new service allows individuals to view or change their home address, mailing address, and phone number(s) in a secure and confidential environment. The privacy of client data is of the utmost importance to the CCRA. Rigorous security methods such as encryption and firewall technology are used to safeguard personal information.

Individuals can view or change their address online at www.ccra.gc.ca/newaddress.
