June is Recreation Month National Winner

By Ryan Cane, National Recreation Manager (Ottawa)

Inspiring Play was this year’s theme for “June is Recreation Month” (JRM) celebrations. JRM directs public attention to the benefits and values of recreation and parks to individuals, families, neighbourhoods and communities, and recognizes and celebrates how recreation and parks contribute to the quality of life of Canadians.

The winner of this year’s educational contest was Corporal Jason Timpa from 431 Squadon, 15 Wing Moose Jaw. Cpl Timpa and his family enjoy camping, and long distance hiking in their leisure time.  “Since we love nature, it is great to get out of the house and enjoy all that it has to offer,” he says. “It is also a great way to stay in shape, spend time with family and pass on knowledge to my children.”

The contest and reward were made possible through the generous support of BMO Bank of Montreal, the official bank of the Canadian Defence Community Banking Program (CDCB) and the BMO Support our Troops MasterCard  The funds they provided were also matched by the prize supplier “World Famous” to ensure a very generous family camping package was given.

“June is Recreation Month” is organized by the Canadian Forces Personnel and Family Support Services (CFPFSS).
