What's in a name?
Apparently a lot when your name is General Rick Hillier (Ret’d). Wanting to honour Gen Hillier’s retirement, CANEX organized an auction to benefit the Military Family Fund. For the occasion, 10 exclusive Support Our Troops baseball caps autographed by Don Cherry, a big supporter of Support Our Troops merchandise, and former Chief of the Defence Staff, Gen Hillier (Ret’d) were auctioned off.
One hundred and seventy bids were submitted and the initiative raised a grand total of $2,338.90 for the Military Families Fund. Seven Canadians, from across the country, were the successful bidders (3 of them bought 2 hats each!).
According to Timothea Wiwcharyk, Merchandising Manager, CANEX, the online auction was a good way to attract interest from customers that would otherwise not have known about CANEX online shopping.
The organization’s goal of promoting Support Our Troops merchandise was reached and they plan to hold auctions again in the future.
