The beginning of a new year gives us an opportunity to reflect on our accomplishments during the last twelve months. Clearly, members of the Defence Team in the field and in headquarters have worked diligently to deliver morale and welfare programs that contribute to the operational effectiveness of the Canadian Forces and to the high retention rate within the CF.

The wait was worthwhile. On November 17th, customers lined up for the official opening of the brand new CANEX SuperMart at 19 Wing Comox. A similar event took place two weeks earlier at CFB Gagetown with the unveiling of a completely renovated SuperMart and addition of a Tim Horton’s outlet.


Reconnect with the CF community: Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Program for Former Members and Families

This January 2011, Don Ferguson, who retired as a Logistics Colonel in 1996, will start a new chapter in the Defence Community as an active proponent for the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Program for Former Members and Families.

Most everyone has heard the saying ‘your life can change in an instant.’ Unless you have experienced such an instant, it is hard to appreciate the saying. For Corporal Dominic Larocque, a member of the famous Van Doos, that instant occurred on 27 November 2007 when his light-armoured vehicle drove over an improvised explosive device on a stretch of road west of Kandahar City.
