Word from the Director General
Welcome to the January edition of our online MW Team Update, the newsletter for all those who develop, deliver, and facilitate Morale and Welfare services, programs and activities.
I hope that the recent holiday season provided an opportunity to rest and recharge your batteries and that you were able to spend some time with loved ones.
A new year often brings a feeling of renewal and the establishment of resolutions for the coming year and I believe that 2010 promises to be rich in accomplishments for the Morale and Welfare team. Within the coming months, we will be receiving the recommendations of the New Deal Funding Distribution Working Group. I expect that I will be in a position to table the findings and to propose a way ahead to all the Base and Wing Commanders when we meet at the symposium currently scheduled to take place in late April. This will bring us a step closer to ensuring a more equitable access to non-public property funded morale & welfare programs.
Major web-based initiatives are in the works including an overhaul to our corporate web site and improvements to the web tools available to the military communities associated with Bases and Wings across the country. I also expect that the information delivery and tools associated with the management of the CF Fitness Program will be rolled out nationally. Our NPF Annual Report this year will combine both print and web resources to highlight the value to Canadian Forces members and families of the contributions their non-public funds are making to their local communities.
Finally, as with all other formations and organizations within DND, DGPFSS is undergoing a 100% review of all its publicly funded activities to ensure that programs and services are relevant and delivered in an effective and efficient manner. I believe that the review will confirm that morale and welfare programs are delivered very effectively in the NPP accountability framework and that opportunities exist to expand the role played by NPP and NPF employees.
To paraphrase an old Chinese curse, we are fated to live in interesting times. With hard work, dedication and a focused commitment to serving those who serve, we will make the best that we can of these times ahead. I wish you all the greatest success in 2010.
As always, I invite you to submit morale and welfare-related articles and photos for use in this bulletin. Your feedback on its content is welcome and always appreciated.
