During this portion of the relay, over 5,000 spectators converged on the Celebration site to welcome the Olympic Flame to Cold Lake. Cold Lake citizens were treated to music, fun and a fireworks display. Nearly three weeks later, Eric Plante, the PSP Fitness Coordinator from 14 Wing Greenwood, carried the historic torch as part of the team that was comprised of various representatives from local Units and Squadrons. Jim Hickey, the arena manager for 12 Wing Shearwater, carried the torch in Greenwood as part of a team comprised of military veterans and retired service members. Bobbi Howard-Muir, the PSP Manager from 19 Wing Comox, also carried the torch on Monday, November 2nd. Running through beautiful downtown Comox, this portion of the relay was packed with kids from local schools as well as residents. Bobbi expressed how meaningful this event was, given the fact that her last eight months have been spent battling breast cancer, which required surgery, chemo and the completion of radiation just a week prior to carrying the torch. "My lifelong dream has been to experience an Olympic Games. I have been involved with sports both professionally and personally all my life. To be able to hold the spirit of the Olympic Games in my hand was the ultimate inspiration." | PREVIOUS ARTICLE | NEXT ARTICLE | MW Team Updates • Director General Personnel & Family Support Services |
