Celebrating 40 years of Serving Those Who Serve

By Jaëlle Deslauriers, Communications Advisor (Ottawa)

Lieutenant-Commander Robyn Barnet, from 14 Wing Greenwood, winner of CANEX Retrospective Contest.

In 1968, the year CANEX was created, the cost of a Chevrolet Corvette was $4,500 and Canada’s population was 20,441,000. Forty years later many things have changed, but CANEX’s dedication to serving the military community remains the same.

To mark its 40th anniversary and thank its patrons, CANEX organized a “Retrospective Contest”. CANEX patrons were invited to submit their stories explaining how they experienced CANEX. Many entries were received and participants were automatically entered for a chance to win one of five wonderful prizes.

“It is heart warming to read the many submitted articles. Their experiences make us proud as an organization and we will continue to meet the needs of the Military community by offering a diverse range of merchandise, advantage programs and superior service!”, explains Mac McMillan, Vice President CANEX. In 2007/2008, CANEX sales resulted in over $4 million being reinvested in morale and welfare programs for the military community.

The draw took place in September and five happy customers were awarded prizes ranging from a Microsoft XBox 360 Gaming Package to a pair of laundry appliances. The contest was a huge success thanks to the military community who responded in large number to the invitation to submit their stories.
